Papers, 1834-1884.

Papers include correspondence between Abel Lyon and his fiancee, Ann Lansing, written circa 1834-1835. These letters contain expressions of the love and affection they had for each other at the time of their courtship. The remainder of the papers consist mostly of deeds, bonds, mortgages, and other legal documents related to extensive landholdings in New York State and Michigan. Lyon's properties in New York were situated in Albany County (Menands), Saratoga County (Town of Edinburgh), and Washington County (Town of Jackson). His Michigan landholdings were situated in Battle Creek and Kent County. A copy of Abel Lyons last will and testament, prepared in 1844, is also included.
